6th. Day Samuel Burnside Boyd McElderry.
I was Deputy Registrar and Appraiser from 18th. November, 1912, till 5th. August, 1913: and I was in the office all that time. I dealt with Probate and Letters of Administration.cases.
In poor cases where Mr. Alim Khan received authority to pre- -pare the papers in the Registry the practice was that the money payable by the applicant was handed to Alim Khan and he was suppos- -ed to affix stamps.
I was not aware that Mr. A. K. received the money en bloc at
one time.
I don't remember anything about Cordeiro's case. Mr. A. Khan had substantial control of these cA808.
I do not remember anything definite about these cases. In Ghanaya Singh's case: I signed the letter (Exhibit G). I had nothing to do with the transmission of the Money Order: I believe that it was all left to Mr. A. Khan.
I gave no instructions about the money at all: I didn't know whether the money was forwarded or not; nor did I enquire as to what the equivalent was or for any voucher. It was very slack of me. I do not know how the money is transmitted or who had the cheque. I did not know what the practice was at all. Chogs-examined by Mr. Alim Khen.
The practices I followed were sometimes taken from you as practices of the Registry. I dont know if G is in the usual form. I would compare the figures with the ledger; as a rule myself: and
the ledger is posted up from the cash-book.
I should satisfy myself that the figure was correct.
(Treasurer asks for a similar letter to G).
I don't remember if this Estate was wound up on my instruct- -ions. You used to communicate to us, on occasions, the
Registrar's wishes. I don't recollect signing the letter: but I
should be greatly surprised if I signed it in blank. I don't
remember any conversation about it. I don't remember if you called
my attention to the amount. In a pauper case I should ask what
it
